All Proceeds from History Is a Drag Will Support BNHA's Grant Programs
From its establishment in 1997, the Baltimore National Heritage Area (BNHA) has worked with partners across the city to promote and enhance the collection of historic structures, landscapes, cultural traditions, parks, and museums that work together to tell Baltimore’s unique history.
Since 2004, the Baltimore National Heritage Area has awarded more than $1.7 million in grant funding to 59 non-profit organizations working to share Baltimore’s history, people, and places. Much of this funding has been through the Small Capital Grant program. Funded through city bonds, the projects funded by these grants are as diverse as the city itself. Over the years locomotives have been restored, neighborhood parks rehabilitated, masonry repaired, and wayside signage installed.
In 2014, BNHA launched a new grant program focused on providing funds toward non-capital projects, programming, and operational support to help struggling organizations. To date, the Heritage Investment Grant program has provide more than $300,000 to support Baltimore’s historic sites and cultural institutions.
