Discover Charles Street Byway Management
The Baltimore National Heritage Area (and its predecessor, the Baltimore City Heritage Area) has played a key role in managing the Charles Street Byway since its designation as a state scenic byway in 2006. Heritage area staff coordinated the work required to secure the 2009 national scenic byway designation and has carried out a number of grant-funded projects to promote the byway and provide travel information to visitors and city residents.
The Baltimore Heritage Area Association (BHAA), the management entity for the heritage area, continues to assist the city with managing portions of the byway within the boundaries of the Baltimore National Heritage Area. BHAA works closely with the city’s Department of Transportation and the Maryland Highway Administration on the health and future of the Charles Street corridor.
